I am so confused!
You would be, specially if you are not from Calgary. See we had a transit strike here. It lasted 50 days. I had built CalgaryCommuter.com with my business partner some time before the strike, it got a lot of attention during the strike of course. I monitored all messages sent though the system. I saw people lose their jobs or lose wages because they could not get to work on time. There were people who could not go out and get groceries, especially the elderly. People who could not visit their families or could not make medial or other appointments.What does the strike have to do with you becoming ruler of the world?
Good question. The city offered the transit union a very great deal. In fact one of the best transit worker deals that North America has ever seen. However, the idiot in the picture above wanted more. He ranted that transit drivers should be paid the same as nurses and doctors, oh did I mention this idiot was their leader? (btw, he's one of the first to go after good 'ol Stock when I kill all stupid people.)The strike started on Feb. 22. On Feb 28th the city gave their final offer to the union, which included a 10% pay raise over 2 years, $1,000,000 in signing bonuses as well as dozens of other benefits.
So what's the big deal, did they finally settle?
I'm getting to that. The contract was turned down by the union, and later was voted on by the members of the union, and turned down. The city then did exactly what it said it was going to do, start from scratch. The union walked out of negotiations. Of the overall 50 days of the strike, the union refused to return to the bargaining table for 33 of those days.On March 30th the union, now worn down, made an offer to the city. In fact this offer was the exact same offer which the union had turned down before. The unions exact words back on February 28th, "we can hold out for 7 months, and we will until we get a better contract". However the city's position on many of the aspects of the original contract (which was negotiated over a 15 month time span) had changed and was now unacceptable.
In the end the city started a skeleton transit service with workers who crossed the picket line. The service was started on April 4th. On the 8th 600+ of the just under 2000 transit workers contacted the ATU president in Washington. These 600+ workers did not want to destroy the solidarity of the union, but their leader was now begging the city to take a contract offer which was just a month ago, no where near what the union wanted. The workers felt betrayed and would cross the line if a contract wasn't reached by the end of the week.
So what happened?
The president of the union came to Calgary. He told the local leader to sit down and shut up and after talking to the city for a couple hours came out with a contract, worse then the Feb. 28th contract, but still one of the best Canada has ever seen. It ment that the 2000 union members could now go back to work, and they did a few days later.Why were they on strike so long?
The union objected to the city changing some of the large conventional bus routes to shuttle routes. A shuttle bus costs 1/2 as much to operate. Clauses in the contract ensured that no conventional driver would lose work due to the route conversions. Those are the facts. I have no idea why they were on strike. My simple answer is the union members are complete idiots.Ok, well what does this have to do with you ruling the world again?
Simple. For 50 days the city bleed as the union was on strike. And for what? Nothing. When I become ruler of the world I will not let this happen. If a fair contract is offered and not accepted then the union negotiators will die. Of course this will automatically take place when I kill all stupid people. People do have a right to leave their work if they feel they are being mistreated, but not to this extent.A vote for me is a vote for clear thinking.
